2 Week Check Up

Today Jackson had his 2 week check up. He now weighs 9lbs. 7.5oz and is 21 inches long. The doctor is very happy with his weight gain and so is mommy and daddy. Jackson was a very good boy at the doctor's office. He barely woke up to see the doctor.

I need some advice...

The doctor asked us if Jackson was sleeping in our room. Mark and I decide it was best for Jackson to sleep in his own room. We have not once brought him into our room to sleep. The doctor then tells us that we should consider having Jackson sleep in our room as it helps reduce the chances of SIDS. The doctor says that when a baby is in the parents room the baby doesn't go into the deep, deep sleep b/c they senses the parents present. Now I am all confused on what to do. I'm scared to death of SIDS, but Jackson is doing a great job sleeping in his own room. Here's another issue -- If Jackson sleeps in our room then Mark would be woke up every time Jackson needs to eat and right now it works perfectly that I get up and nurse Jackson and Mark continues to sleep as he is working full time. Any advice on what to do would be appreciated.

Today Jackson and I also attended Mommy and Me at the hospital. It's a gathering for new moms to share their happy, sad, frustrated and need advice time. We like going b/c we get to interact with other new moms and receive great advice on how to handle things. Every week there is a topic and sometimes there are guess speakers. Next week Jackson and I will be learning how to Salsa mom's baby weight away :). I'll let you know what happens.

Last but not least a few new pictures of Jackson. The grandparents love to see pictures of Jackson. Here you go!

Jackson is so alert!! I wish I could kiss those little cheeks.

Salsa-ing back in shape sounds interesting!

As far as sleep goes, I don't think SIDS can be predicted. We have had a baby in our room in a cradle, in our bed, in their own rooms in their own bed. Each baby was pretty different. We have friends who NEVER put their babies anywhere but in the baby's room and bed and we have friends who ALWAYS have their baby sleep in the parent's bed. Know what I mean? Try to do what is working for your family.

He is still totally cute...
Sissy, I NEVER had the boys sleep in the same room as we did. Jackson is a big boy with no risk factors for SIDs besides the fact he is a baby....I would not change his routine, but that's just my opinion (3 boys later)... Remember, that research is generally imperfect, pray about it, and then make the best decision for you and your family!
I think you should call Bernie and discuss it with her as well.
Let me know what you decide.
Love,
Leanne

We have never had Brylee Taite in our room. She does great in her own bed and seems very comfortable there. One thing I did do was get an incline to sleep. They have them at Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, and Target (I know of for sure). They keep her in place so she cannot roll and we always kept her swaddled so that she could not wiggle. Of course now at 4 months, it seem like every time I enter her room she has scooted, taken off her covers, or is holding her toes. It is just precious, but I still keep the incline in there so she cannot roll in her sleep.

He is such a cutie, I see a lot of each of you in him. You have to do what is best for you all. Enjoy your time with him!! It goes by so quickly.
